Why Does SEO Matter?
Search engine optimization, also known as SEO, is the key to gaining results without paying the price for placed ads ex: Google AdWords, Bing Ads. SEO is all organic, the only cost there is to SEO depends on if you do it yourself, or higher someone to do it for you. If you choose to hire someone to do it for you, then there will be a higher cost to it verses if you did it yourself. Doing SEO alone, however can be time consuming. So, what makes SEO so important that it is worth the time and cost? There are many reasons why SEO matters, but let’s look at just three reasons of why you should take the proper steps and invest the time and money to SEO your website.
- When the time is taken for one to implement SEO into their website, they are taking the time to study and understand their targeted audience for their brand. Not every brand has the same targeted audience, Therefore, when one places a query in a search box, a website that has shown that it is of quality and relevant to what they user is searching for, search engines are more than likely to show your website above others that contain little or no SEO in it. This statement is even more powerful if your website has been around longer that competitor’s website. How long a domain has been registered also plays a big role in ranking factors within search engines and what they show to users.
- User experience is a big thing. As the saying goes, “If Mommy aint happy, aint nobody happy”. The same goes for users and search engines. If users are visiting your website for a specific reason (Really, they are visiting for a purpose), and get to your website only to find out that what they seen in search is not what they are looking for, then they will hit the back button. Search engines keep track of these bounces and will start to look at your site as irrelevant to that search phrase or word. Search Engine Journal makes this statement as well by point out how important user experience is. They state that “As user behavior trends toward a more immersive and informative web, companies are adopting new technologies, such as PWAs and AMP, to provide that experience.” (Reinhart, 2018)
- Search engine optimization can decrease the amount of money spent on a marketing budget. SEO has long term effects on a website, and since it is organic, natural results, there is no need to pay for advertising if you are showing up in the natural results of a search engine. Once you have your website had the correct SEO, the traffic brought to your site is FREE. You are not paying for people to go your website every time they click on your website link in the search results. According to Etched Marketing “If you want to equate SEO efforts to dollars, look up the cost per click estimate for any keyword you’re targeting and estimate how much you’re saving by working on that term.” (Etched Marketing, 2018)
